If your dining table or coffee table or (gulp) bed is functioning as your home office, you likely move around a lot during the day from one spot to another as you work. If you do, I’m guessing you misplace things as you transition. Since the seat you work in is also the one you may watch TV on, eat at or sleep in, it’s also likely that you struggle with turning off your work brain when it’s time to relax and be at home.
Here are a few tips to help reclaim some sanity and distinction between work and home:
- Create a portable storage container for office items you use the most, like your notebook, papers, paperclips, pens, phone, earbuds, etc. The more you love it, the better!
- Make space for your portable container somewhere out of sight when not in use, like in a closet or under the sofa.
- Dedicate a space for items you don’t use on a daily basis. I once put a small two-drawer file cabinet next to my bed, placed a 24” round piece of plywood on the top and covered it with beautiful fabric so it did double-duty as a nightstand.
